Sent my R51 in on 3/31/14. Called Remington on 4/20/2015 and was told that the R51 would be out sometime during the 2nd half of 2015. Agreed to have Remington send me a 1911 R1 in exchange for the R51 during that call. Got a return call from Remington on 4/21/15 that they had received my FFL's license. Called them back on 5/26/15 and was told they had submitted the order 4/24/15 and I would get an email when it was shipped. Still no email but my FFL called me this afternoon that the gun had come in this morning (6/9/15) and I could come pick it up.
7 weeks from decision to take the R1 swap until gun in hand.
R51 swap for 1911 R1. Got yours yet?

Got my R1 swap last week. Put 100 rounds through it over the weekend. No hiccups in feeding or extracting. The slightly longer trigger reset takes a few rounds of practice but works fine for me. Very nice sights. Comparing with my early-90's vintage Colt, the Colt has a much nicer finish, as expected. The Remington is much tighter, though-they aren't kidding with that bushing wrench they supply with it. It's very accurate, much more so than most out of the box pistols. 25 years ago when you bought a 1911, it was pretty much a given that your first stop was going to be at a gunsmith to get it to work right. These new ones start right up and run all day. Might try some wadcutters and HP's this weekend. All I've done so far is put a Wilson Shock Buffer on the spring guide, with luck that is all it will ever need.

Hey Guys, and Gals, if this is your first 1911, welcome to the club. I had an R1911 and it was a great shooter. I let my grandson talk me out of it to use on the job. I may buy another one, but my wife
says I have too many 1911s now. I will talk about buying a new pickup and then she will let me get another Rem R1911. :<} |

Rick, I know what you mean. I have 16 1911s in all flavours from 22TCM, to .380 to .45ACP and all in between. I am negotiating for a WWII U.S. Gov 1911, Singer. Wish me luck Blackie |

Blackie, If that is a "genuine" Singer from the 1st 500 (educational order), that is a very much sought after 1911A1. However, there are some 'fakes' out there, re-stamped models and the likes. At a price range of $3500 to more than $20,000 that genuine Singers bring, you might be wise to see if it has ever been X-Rayed for authenticity as some collectors have been known to do if they have any doubt. I think they only built 500 of them in Serial # S800001 - S800500 plus a few without stampings that Singer employees built for themselves. The Singer tools & tooling were then issued to Remington Rand and Ithaca. Maybe you already know all of that, but just wanted to mention it. Good Luck and I hope you get one of those jewels. Rick |
