I've used Hodgdon H414 powder (aka Win 760) exclusively in my 140 gr 7-08 loadings for many years. But I have heard it can be somewhat ambient temperature sensitive. I am looking into experimenting with a few other powders, such as Varget and RL-17. Any info or opinions on this?

Hi.

I really like both Varget and H4350 for the -08 cartridges. Both powders are almost impervious to temperature extremes. They are a bit hard to accurately meter thru my Lyman #55 but I use an electronic digital measure for my hunting rifle loads which helps immeasureably!

Seriously, the Extreme line of Hodgdon powders, and in particular the stick powders in the medium burn range, are unequalled.

I take into consideration the bullet weight when I choose between the two.

I liked the IMR powders for a long time but I now prefer Hodgdon.
