Why is the stainless the most popular? What are the benefits over the non-stainless models?

I think it is more personal opinion. Me I ordered the blued because I'm not a fan of stainless. Just my opinion.

Stainless just because you don't have to worry as much about whipping it down after touching to keep it from rusting when put away. I just like the look of Stainless also.

The standard. I love stainless guns too, but for my only 1911 I wanted a more traditional look. The R1 is my everyday carry now.

Just picked up my standard R1 three weeks ago. I had been looking at various off shore brands because of price. The local dealer looked up the price of the R1 and when he said $620, I had to go with the big name brand.

I think you'll love it. Mine shoots great and is very accurate.
Enjoy!

I just recently got a R1S enhanced model. It is even better than I had anticipated it would be so far.

I have had some bad experiences with these modern black oxide/parkerized, phosphated or blued combo's and some of these finishes just don't hold up very well. I have had my 17 shot double stack 9 mm about 5 years now and it gets shot quite a lot. Even with touch ups it was bad enough that I went ahead recently and had it cerakoted.

The black R1's are apparently black oxide so I guess time will tell how well that is going to hold.
