I had been looking at various off shore brands because of price. The local dealer looked up the price of the R1 and when he said $620, I had to go with the big name brand.

I just recently got a R1S enhanced model. It is even better than I had anticipated it would be so far.

I have had some bad experiences with these modern black oxide/parkerized, phosphated or blued combo's and some of these finishes just don't hold up very well. I have had my 17 shot double stack 9 mm about 5 years now and it gets shot quite a lot. Even with touch ups it was bad enough that I went ahead recently and had it cerakoted.

The black R1's are apparently black oxide so I guess time will tell how well that is going to hold.
