I deer hunt with an 870 12ga with a copper solid sabot slug. It seems the first shot (on paper) after cleaning my gun is about 6 inches low. Without adjusting the sights, almost every shot after that is dead center at 50 yards. Is there any truth to hunting with a fouled barrel?

Thanks.
Jim

Welcome to the Remington Owners Forum Jim !!

To answer your question: Absolutely...that's why you always fire a fouling shot after zeroing and cleaning before the hunt.

Yes sir...fouling shots are especially critical for muzzleloaders when hunting. Buddy of mine swears that it makes that first cold bore shot during the hunt more accurate.
