As the title states; why choose the Remington Model 887 over the Model 870?

because its waterproof and shoots straiter than any of those european moneysuckers

I honestly cannot fathom why someone would forego the 870 for some modern and (IMO) inferior alternative to the 870.

If I were to be buying another Remington pump shotgun right now, I would much rather have a well-used 870 Wingmaster or Remington 870 Police with wood furniture than some plasticized variant. But that's just me.

I like blued steel and wood revolvers and other decent firearms from before the "modern" era.
