Congratulations on your new Mossberg Model 887! You are a lucky man having a wife like that. Let us know how your hunting season goes. I am very excited for the start of this years as well.

Do you come across a lot of old abandoned cars where you hunt in Florida?

This old barn was found on a clay road in the backwoods of Ga. This was something unique to run across. Haha

Thats pretty amazing. How often did you come across a dangerous animal such as those in the pictures?

Those I run into pretty much on a daily basis. Heres a male Cottonmouth I ran into just today in a cypress swamp. It makes heading into the woods in the dark almost too exciting. You learn what to look for and it becomes second nature.

Well yesterday morning (5/7) turned out to be quite the eventfull morning. Around 5:30 am I let out out a few tree yelps with zero response . I knew there were birds there, so I sit and wait. It wasn't 30 mins. later and the woods just filled with thunderous gobbles ... I'm thinking YES !!

I let out a few yelps to no avail ... these birds would respond to the calling but wouldn't commit ... it was as if they already had thier minds made up as to what was going to happen. This was the norm for the last few days ... Once the live hens started in I was nothing more but the usual noise in the woods ....

But I held fast knowing what can happen in a instant while hunting. I reach for the thermos at about 8:00 am after letting out a few hard yelps and fill my cup and get set to take a drink and I spot two birds coming in FAST .. no time to move the video camera, I just drop my coffe and get the 887 ready for some action ...

These two birds covered about 150yrds.before I could really react to what was happening. They were two young jakes, they actually looked to be twins. Being left handed I lined up on the left bird (25yrds away) and let the 887 bark, he rolls completly over and starts to run to my left ( his mistake, me being left handed ... ) I let 2 more rounds go and drop him in his tracks ... Man this was a tuff bird, I nailed him hard with the first round and he runs ,,, whats up with that .. lol

He weighed in at 16lbs. 5" Beard with nubs for spurs ... NOT BAD considering how hard these birds are to get this season after all of the snow we had ...

Here are few pics and a video of the actual harvest ,,, and for those that have doubts about the cycling action of the M887 this video should put that to rest ... ;)

Congrats on getting a gobbler with your Remington 887! I have been on the hunt for a gobbler this season but have not had much luck. What round were you hunting with?

It's ben a sure fire round for me thus far. I have been tinkering around with some KENT rounds in 3" also, so far the results have been pretty good.

Good Luck on bagging a Tom. They have been hard to get around here, and the rain hasn't help at all ..
