Hey everyone. Since there was no accessories for M887 i decided to make the 870 one fit.

Image

Its a direct fit with 2 exceptions;

1: You need to grind the bottom of the barrel OR alternatively you can grind the tacstar extensions grip slightly thinner and paint it.

2: You also need to cut your original magazine cap to make a washer for the extension OR alternatively get some pipe that fits or have a metal shop make you a spacer for it:

Also, you have to grind down the dimples from the mag tube just like in 870 to allow the follower to move.

So here it goes:

I'm also working on fitting a side saddle, it's all set, bolts etc, with the exception of modifying the forward stock, it needs to be cut some to make clearance for the saddle and im not sure how im going to go about it..

No luck with the side saddle, remington really did it with this one.

You either have to butcher the front grip, which will look horrible with the action slide bars and stuff showing up, nevermind making it quite uncomfortable to cock it.

Another option is to put a spacer between the gun and the saddle allowing front grip to slide between them, this works but it looks horrible..

Third option would be to put it high enough or angle it to allow the action to go under it, but again this looks simply horrible.

No joy :( Well, atleast the mag extension is all good..

Great idea! Have you been able to put some rounds down range with it?

Yeah, it works well! A bit front heavy with the extension filled with ammo, need to get used to it 8-)

First off, thank you very much. I was becoming quite upset that there are literally no add ons for the 887. Your post saved me from taking a loss on selling it just to because of this so, thank you a great many times over.

I have done this modification except for a few differences that maybe others would like to try as alternative steps to the op.

1. I didn't want shave anything off the bottom of the barrel so I went with a different mag tube extensión other than tacstar (sorry, I don't remember which company). The grip on the screw down wasn't as wide so I only had the lip at the bottom to contend with. Which caused no issue for me, even without removing any of the protective coating.

2. I also did not want to cut mag tube cap that originally came with the gun. So I cut a 3/4 inch piece of pipe to proper height to fill the gap and get the barrel to lock down properly. I highly recommend a table or chop saw with a metal cutting blade to insure the height is uniform all the way around. Then filed and sanded the newly cut ring to remove any rough edges. Finally I used a $20 DIY bluing kit to blue the ring so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb. And assembled.

I did have a few trial and error issues with ring(s) I cut which can be avoided by cutting the original cap (just couldn't bring myself to do it). But the tube extension works flawlessly, gun fires great, cycles great.

Again thanks to the op for the walkthrough. I couldn't have done it and would never have thought of it without you. Just my alternatives to your walkthrough. Thanks again and I hope this post is ok with you.

Hey!

Glad i could be of help.

I have also improved the design a bit, i will make a new how-to as soon as i get my gun back from the warranty service (These guns have some issues going on....)

Basically you can solve these issues this way too:

Instead of grinding the barrel, you can still use TacStar by milling the tacstar extension grip slightly thinner and paint it again - woks well.

Also you can keep the original cap and either get some pipe or if you want a perfect fit you can ask a metal company to make you one with roughly these dimensions : Legth 20mm, Inner diameter 26mm, outer diameter 32mm (Measure your gun to be sure..)

They will make this kind of work in few minutes and it wont cost much (New endcap costs like 40 bucks at the dealer if you make a washer off your original one!!)

There we go, and the metal-guy only wanted 10 bucks for making it - now to paint and install it :)
