Hello all, got my 740 out of gun jail yesterday, got my first good look at it. Watched several Youtube vids, got some pointers on what to look for. Serial # is 793xx. Chambered in 30-06. This was a gift from the estate of a deceased friend, so it only cost me the $35 to register it. I was wondering whether to upgrade it with a scope and a 10-rd mag if I can find one. Ideas ?

10 rounders are pretty hard to find.

I was able to buy one for my 7400 in 30-06. I found it on ebay of all places. The only thing stamped anywhere on the magazine was the word EAGLE.

I will also mention that other than looking like a BAR (browning automatic rifle) the magazine was not the most reliable thing ever created.

And another quirk about the gun, was when the barrel started heating up, you could watch the bullets start to walk and string across the paper as the barrel continued to get hotter and hotter.
