I bought a new 1911 from the many that are available on the market today. You guested it....the Remington 1911 R1. I looked at all the new offerings and kept coming back the R1. It just felt right so the decision was easy. I have shot the Browning Hipower for many years and always thought that the .45 was overkill. The R1 was a real surprise in handling, managable recoil, accuracy, and fit/finish. After 100 rounds, I modified it for a beavertail grip safety, ambidextous thumb safety, and a commander style hammer. Pictures are attached. The parts came from Midway USA and were truely "drop-in" without any metal work required. Working up accuracy loads was very easy since the 1911 has a rich history of competition shooting to draw from and loading components are available almost everywhere. I have attached a target of the initial results I obtained with cast bullets. The stainless barrel and bushing combination is key to its accuracy and machined to perfection. The reloading details are written on the target should you wish to try the same load on your R1. I couldn't be happier than I am now with the performance and workmanship of the R1. Its a keeper.

Very nice grouping and thanks for posting up your thoughts on the Remington Model 1911 R1!

Nice groupings! What sight do you have on it?

I did not replace the factory three dot sights. They provide a good sight picture despite the fact that I wear tri-focal glasses and don't shoot iron sights like I used to. Remington did a good job in selecting new generation sights to go with what is a retro remake of a classic old gun.
