I bought a Versamax Tactical Comp. It came with a magazine of ginormity that I don't wish to extend. I DO wish to go turkey hunting and would prefer to not do so illegally.
Besides a original size magazine tube, spring and a plug:

What else would I need to swap to get my Versa Max down to a 3 round capacity?

I admit that I don't have any hands on with that particular model, but this little trick usually works for other shotgunners that find themselves needing to limit capacity to hunt.
If you were pressed for time or wanted to save $100, you could measure off the extra distance of the extra shells and go to the local hardware store and buy a three foot long 1/4" or 5/16" wooden dowel and cut it to length and put it in the mag tube behind the follower to block and prevent the mag from accepting more than 2 shells at a time. Total cost? Looks like home depot has them for .46 cents just to give you a rough idea of what they cost. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Waddell-5-1 ... /203706868 It's reversible for when you're not hunting and you don't have to rebuild half the gun and mechanically "plugs" the mag to legal limits. Not sure about Michigan, but satisfies my state hunting reg's. When people ignorant of guns make gun laws, you end up with ignorant gun laws.

The magazine tube swap should be easy. You might check under the barrel retaining lug and see if there's simply an extension screwed onto your standard tube, or if it is all a one-piece tube. NRA Life, NAHC Life, Retired USN

So, the magazine on the comp is all one tube. However, a check with DNR/LGS found that I actually only needed to get down to 6 shells, not 3. (Since turkey are not migratory birds, the same rules for large game apply here in Michigan, 6 total for semi-shotguns). This means I only need to get rid of about 2.5 shells worth of capacity, or a 8" dowel. I have far less concern about this than I did maybe using a 14"+ dowel to get down to 3.
I got myself a 5/8" dowel from my local hardware store and it seems to function fine. |

Glad the dowel worked out for you. Much easier and cheaper alternative than swapping parts.
Mossberg dowel plugs are ~1/4" in diameter and work just fine though they are shorter. Nothing wrong with 5/8's though if that's what you prefer. When people ignorant of guns make gun laws, you end up with ignorant gun laws.
