Good morning all!
I'm sure this is a newbie question. My computer skills are limited. I've had no luck with the search function. Here's the question:
Should the numbers on the receiver, trigger guard, butt plate and butt stock match? I recently bought a 25R in 32-20. It was very gummed up so I spent most of a day figuring out how to take it apart, cleaned everything, and put it back together. Smooth as silk now! During the cleaning, I noticed what looked like serial numbers on the above mentioned parts. Only the number on the butt plate and stock "matched". All others were different. Out of curiosity (yes the cat died!) I took my 25A, 24, and 14R apart. NOTHING matched the serial number. Very few matched anything.
Are all my Remington rifles "mixmasters"?
Thanks,
Doug

Shooter13,
So you're saying they should all match? Not a big deal to me as I am a shooter, not a collector! And what a shooter the 25R is! I spent Friday morning mounting and sighting in a vintage Lyman tang peep. Got it close at 25 yards. I could cover those with a quarter, some with a dime. Roughly 3 inch groups at 100 yards off the bench. I am very happy! Even if it is a mongrel... Thanks, Doug "Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks." Thomas Jefferson

What I'm saying is that some parts are matched...and some are not...as you discovered.

Please excuse my slow mind!
So these guns could be original in their current form? Just for kicks, I took the two Model 25's down and tried to put them together "wrong". There is no way to accidentally do this. Way too much difference between the two. Not much interest in discontinued Remingtons here? Should I be asking these questions somewhere else? Thanks for taking the time! Well Doug...it's the summer time / vacation time for most of the country...most forums are slow this time of year.
Ask me how I know... ( BTW...Your question is good here...no need to start another thread...as it's only one thread per topic per person on this forum anyway... ) |
