When the gun fires, the bolt opens slightly under recoil. If I hold the forearm forward (when it fires) it does not open. This bugs me to no end. I was a firerarms instructor for 15 of my 25 yrs wile working at the Fed Pen at Terre Haute IN. Our 870s had alot of rounds through them, but only a few had this problem. Is this what is called a "timeing problem"?..Rog

Roger, I too have several years of using the 870 for work. and most of the time the shotgun will want to open under recoil. Especially the old heavy buck and slug loads. there is no catch as the is on the mod 12 from winchester. Its almost like the 870 functions between the M12 and the M37 from Ithaca.

Thanks for the info. Yea we shot the &*&%# out of ours at a Fed Pen I worked for 25 yrs (all #4 buck) and a lot of them tended to do just that, I was just hoping for a fix. How about the 887? Same? Been reading a lot of bad press on it. I would think Rem would do better, with thear knowledge and the competition and all. Did you read there clame of a 45% reduction in recoil? What a stupid thing to say!Benelli is kicking but right now too. I'm going to the Indy 1500 in Aug, gona look at all of em. Ive had a lot of diferent guns. But MAN! I would like to see Rem wake up. They don't even make a good .22 lr bolt gun. I have an old 581 that I wouldn't take $1,000.00 for, realy. Some times I think Rem is going the way of colt. Look at the acuracy and the new cosmetics of Savages rifles, all calibers. (good rifle there!) Well Ill get off my soapbox, it just like watching an old friend drink himself to death.....rog P.S.... Does Rem ever talk to old guys about what they would make of change? And thank God they got into ARs!

Roger, I don't think Remmy really wants to hear what us old pharts have to say, Actually, they will probably politely thank us for our input and then gon on about their business. I too, believe there was no reason to market any other gun than the 870, as I think nearly 11 million guns out the door, says something.
