I bought an 11-87 used about two years ago. It shot perfect for the first duck season and would cycle just about every different load i ran through it. Last year it slowly started not cycling right. At first is was every once in a while but now its about every shell.

It shoots the first shell and ejects it just fine, the second round loads into the receiver and releases the bolt catch, but the action stays open and it does not load the round into the chamber. It usually just takes a smack on the side of the receiver to get the action to shut, or a light push on the bolt handle. I've cleaned the entire gun several times, including the action spring.

With no rounds in the gun, the action will shut as it should if you push the bolt release and make sure the carrier goes all the way up. If you just push the bolt release the bolt sticks and won't shut. Cycling the action by hand with the trigger group in, the bolt is sticky and does not close smoothly. With the trigger group out it cycles smoothly. I have not replaced any parts. This gun is used as a duck gun so it has had water and dirt in it. It is a 2005 11-87 sportsman 12 ga, chambered for 2 3/4 and 3" shells. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I guess first off I would try to identify whats rubbing on what. Are there any marks on the bolt or receiver?

Its been a while since I had an 11-87 so trying to remember.

If it works with the trigger assembly out, do you see anything there that shows unexpected wear?
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.-Ronald Reagan
