New member here. Hi everybody.
Just purchased A new Remington 700p in 223. Attempted to clean bore to remove any corrosion preventative that might be there and large amounts of brown colored stuff poured from the bore. Stuck the bore scope in and found pitting in the chamber and first couple of inches of the rifling. Any thoughts to what might of happened?

As far as your question...sounds like your rifle may have not been properly prepared with corrosion preventative at the factory...or it was not stored correctly at the dealership.
Either way...you can attack it aggressively with rust solvent until that brown sludge is gone.... or... take it back to the point of purchase and complain...which usually will get you nowhere. Let us know how you make out... |

Real crime how some will let a nice firearm go to pot!! Good guns ain't cheap and should be cared for properly to ensure proper function and maintain value.

Just bought a new 783 in 243 and have same problem about 3 inches from the muzzle. I'm still going to see how it shoots. Bought the rifle for a 6.5 Creedmoor project anyhow.
