I don't see much mentioned about the Rem. 541X on the interweb, I picked one up new in wrapper with sights from CMP about 15 years ago and really love it. It is super accurate but my 40X can best it by a bit.

Sounds like a lucky find Steve. My book says 9,077 made from 1984-86. military training rifle with 27 inch barrel in 22 L.R. Value should be quite respectable.

I also picked up two Mossberg M44 22 rifles, a Mdl. 12 H&R, a Remington 40X and the Rem. 541X. The weird thing is that one of the Mossberg M44's has one more land and groove than the other and I have counted them about a dozen times over the years and have had four or five people count them also and one still comes out with one more. All the rifles shoot fantastic with the 40X being the best one of all.

Pictures are better viewed when sized to no more than 500x500 pixels...

I thought you told me before it was 600 x 600 so that is what I sized them to. Goes to show what I got to think with. I'll go back and size them again.

Very nice Remington. Talk about build quality!! Got to shoot one of the old Mossberg's a couple of years back. Built like a tank. One of the first we had as kids was a Mossberg Model 320 I believe with the Williams peep sight and target trigger.

One of my Mossbergs will get almost as good groups (but not quite) as the 541X while the other one is pretty accurate too. I have only put about two boxes of ammo through the 541X so I don't think it is even broken in yet.
