Denting loaded cartridge cases

I just picked up a new Remington RM380 and I noticed that upon loading the magazine to capacity and then racking a round it leaves a slight dent on the top of the cartridge case on the top round in the magazine. Obviously this is being caused by the round entering the chamber and the rim of that cartridge. The steep feed ramp is causing the dent by the rear of the case entering. I'm not really too concerned about this, I can always load the chamber first then the magazine but I was curious if anyone else has seen this issue. I haven't shot the gun yet and I plan on that today.

As far as your problem...shoot the gun and report back to us.

Yes - I see the same thing, although when I load "+1" that's not how I do it so I never noticed it before. I believe the dent happens when the round being chambered is forced under the extractor and is still at such an angle that the rim is still in contact with the round beneath it. I typically will load "+1" from a magazine with only one round in it first and then load the magazine, or I will load a magazine and then chamber the "+1" from a second magazine with only one round. I try to minimize the "wear and tear" on carry ammo as much as I can on ALL pistols, and I mark the rounds that get chambered and shoot them at range sessions so they never get beat up so badly that OAL changes. |

Well took the little Remington to the range today. All went well, I put numerous HP's though the gun and all types of ball ammo without a problem. The gun functioned very well. I shot about three hundred round of ammo through this pistol. It's an awesome little handgun. I had two light strikes on primers with Silver Bear but the second strike did it. Russian ammo has some hard primers but all the brass cased ammo and hollow points fed, cycled and shot well, some better than others. I'm carrying Ruger ARX ammo at this time but the gun liked Speer Gold Dots and Federal Hydra Shoks and Remington GS. I liked shooting the gun so much I wanted to keep going but I ran out of range time. It's all nice and clean now and ready to go.

Now THAT'S what I call a range day! Great report and glad to hear of your success. May the little pistol keep you safe and make you feel safe. |

Amen to that! I have to say after 50 to 100 rounds the trigger was working well for me. Re-adjustment from striker triggers but i started with revolvers so its like riding a bike. No issues with me and the long trigger. Way too much is made today about triggers and newbies are spoiled by all the way too light triggers today.

I have got the dented cases also, just loaded chamber from magazine with 1 rd in it only, then topped the magazine off afterwards and no dented cases now, I believe cocojoe is correct as to the cause.
