I talked with Remington today. The update I got on my R51 replacement was " With the moving of the manufacturing plant, production should start up 1st or 2nd quarter of 2015 with an expected release date some time in the summer."
I'll still look at the revised R51 when it comes out, just much closer than I did the first time around. I was quite fond of the looks, feel and accuracy of my R51 & hated to send it back. For now I'll add another 1911 to my collection. For what I paid or the R51 the R1 is a pretty good deal and I have no hard feelings towards Remington.

TD, That sounds like me talking. I'll be at the counter getting my 2nd Gen R51 after I hear positive owner/shooter reviews. Maybe I won't wait. Remington WON'T make the same mistake twice on one gun. I really enjoyed the "GOOD" in the 2 R51s I bought, so much that I took my old 96 year old Model 51 out to the range yesterday. I really want to see the R51 program expand with success and see them bring it out in .45 ACP. There was mention of .40 and more last summer. I would also welcome the extra weight of the pistol if they made the frame of steel instead of aluminum. That would multiply the expected service life tremendously. Don't think it would hurt the balance either due to its perfect profile. Heck, might even make it better balanced. ??? And, gaining a couple extra 1911s in this whole process... Sweet deal Remington made for us. Like I said before, "A man can't own TOO many 1911s."
