I recently traded a Ruger 10/22 in return for a Remington 788 in .308. So I am officially a Remington bolt action newbie, my first Remington was an AirMaster 77 . 177 air rifle. Just handed it down to my stepson to be his first firearm.

Congrats!!
Like the green stock. We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.-Ronald Reagan

Wow. Unless that was some special production Ruger, I would say you got the better end of that deal. Nice rifle.

Well got out to the range and I am quite happy with the 788, or as I call it "my boomstick". After sighting it in I can easily hit the 12" steel plate at the far end of the range at 240yrds. For some that maybe peanuts but to me I am very happy.
