I needed to spend less than five hundred dollars for my new rifle and scope. After reading all of the good and bad reviews; I found that most of the bad reviews on forums and stores came from people that have never owned or fired a 783. I'm very, very happy with my Remington 783.

I sighted in at a Missouri state park, outdoor range using a Winchester benchrest.
Rifle: Remington 783 30-06
Distance 100 yards
Ammo: Hornady 180gr SST Super Performance 30-06 Springfield
Target: Homemade 1 square inch graph
Optics: Bushnell Banner Dusk and Dawn 3-9x40mm mounted with Traditions high scope rings and two Weaver front mounts for Remington 700

1st group: Shot without bore sighting
2nd group: After adjusting to the center
3rd group: Adjusting for 2 inches high at 100 yards for a 0 at 50 and 200.

Well it looks like the photos didn't upload. The end result was shooting under a 3/4 inch group.

A 3/4" group with factory ammo is really fine accuracy from any hunting rifle.

Your zero setting sounds like it makes a lot of sense to me.

Welcome to the Forum. Remington firearms are awesome. I haven't had a bad one yet.
My 1969 870 Magnum 12 Gauge performs excellent and its 45 years old.
My Remington 1911 R1 is the most accurate pistol I have ever owned or shot.
I bought a new 700 30-06 that I have to sight in yet, for this deer season.

Congratulations on the 783.

Jarmstro, shooting MOA with any rifle is excellent, but besting that is outstanding. Man, I have seen so many reports on the 783 being a better than MOA rifle, so I think the next bolt gun I will get will have to be the 783. Don't get me wrong, I like my 700, but for 150 dollars less, I could get a gun that shoots every bit as good.

The 783 is a winner. I have one in 7mm and will be getting another in a different caliber soon. Remington hit a home run with this one.
