Made by Zastava in Serbia, and imported as the Remington Model 5. One thing Remy did was specify a nice laminate wood stock. Zastava puts hardwood birch stocks on these and continue to sell them under their own name.

For a laminate, it's almost as nice a well-figured walnut! I have a Marlin 60 with a similar colored laminate stock and they are gorgeous.

I ordered a Boyd walnut for my 783 and also ordered a metal bottom those 2 accents should give the firearm a classic look

I really would like to find a straight classic but I'm in search for a 1903 Springfield as that has a high significance to my occupation history.

There is a guy on GunBroker who makes replacement stocks. I found him under a "Remington 582" search as he makes them for the 581. But for a few zloty's more, he made one complete with rosewood forend tip for my 582 which has a very plain figured birch stock. This is (off topic) my winter project to replace that stock.

Zastava still lists AKM's in their current catalog. Their definition of un_PC must be different than ours.
