Just rediscovered this site and had myself reactivated so I could become a participant. In the late '40s-early '50s Dad was a factory rep for a then-major competitor until he was recalled to the Air Force for fighter pilot duty during the Korean War. After deciding that flying jet fighters was more fun than anything else he could do, he stayed in to make it a career, retiring as a colonel in the mid-'70s. Throughout our childhood, brother and I were active shooters, hunters and outdoorsmen under Dad's tutelage. Toward the mid-'60s brother and I had our own brief military careers (brother was a Merchant Marine deck officer and Naval Reservist; I was an Army infantryman, including 14 months of advanced study in nation building and conflict resolution during the Southeast Asia live fire exercise). Afterwards it was on to grad school, marriage, career, child raising -- all the then-usual stuff. While the interest in firearms has always been there, it was pretty much "back burner" until a few years before retirement. At 71+ with arthritis and gout, I've long since given up hunting and fieldcraft in favor of Steel Challenge pistol and benchrest rifle. Next up is getting reacquainted with skeet and trap and maybe an introduction to sporting clays. In spite of a lifelong predilection for pre-'64 "W" products, my battery includes a fair number of Remingtons, with a strong favoring for 870s. And I can see a VersaMax or two in the future, as well. Mostly I'll be a lurker, sometimes with lots of questions, and I look forward to learning from the collective experience and wisdom in this forum.
