I acquired a Gallery Special recently, serial 47XXX. The barrel is marked for .22 short. The cartridge slot in the magazine tube is cut so that a .22lr can be inserted. My guess was that someone had swapped the tube at some point, because I did not think Remington would give somebody an opportunity to try stuffing a .22lr into .22 short chamber. I saw another Gallery Special at a gun show last weekend, serial below 100, that also had the magazine slot cut for long rifle. I have since found some pictures of Gallery Specials with slots for .22lr. So, now I am confused. Can anyone confirm if the Gallery Specials originally had slots for .22 short only of if the slots were cut to accept .22lr?

As memory serves, and sometimes not as I'd like, most all of the tubed magazines had the same cutout for ease of producing.
