I have the 700 tactical I bought last year. I sort of wish I would have looked a little more and got the AAC but oh-well.
I've been looking around at different stocks and maybe a better barrel, then I started thinking. If the 700 is so good out of the box why do I want to replace every part on it? If I do, is it still a 700?
I'm satisfied with my rifle now, I just like to make stuff better and I'm trying to talk myself out of it.

Were it my rifle, I'd shoot the thing til it lost its accuracy, then replace the barrel. IMHO, its kinda like taking tires off a brand new car and tossin them out just to have a set of brand new tires.
Get plenty of use outta that barrel before ya toss it, should be near 2000 rounds or so. Sent from my LG-VS700 using Tapatalk 2 I would rather die on my feet, than live on my knees...

I thought that the thing that really separated the different models was the action. IMHO you can replace everything else and still call it a 700.
Is there a specific reason you want to replace the barrel? I would weight how much it would cost vs. how much it will actually improve the gun. There are lots of things you can do to tighten up groups before swapping the barrel. Not trying to deter you from making your, just trying to figure out what a "better" barrel means in this context. We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.-Ronald Reagan

I was going to replace the stock with an aics mainly to get the 10 round magazines. I was thinking of replacing the barrel with a better twist rate to be accurate with 175+gr rounds.
I decided last night after looking around I would just keep this as is and enjoy it. It's a great rifle, I just saw too many new toys out there to remember that. If I want to go farther, I'll get a .338. |
