I picked up a old shotgun from a gent who claims it was a Remington pre model 10. the receiver has no markings on it with exception of serial number of u then underneath 550xx (last 2 digits xx for security purposes) it also came with 2 barrels and a leather hard case. 1 barrel is marked with same serial number except without the u 550xx and has patent dates of feb 1903 and may 1905 and has 2 letters within a circle of rp. the second barrel has same serial also except it is located on the loop that the slide runs through 550xx and stamped on the barrel has 3 patent dates feb 1903 may 1905 and march1926 with 3 letters in a oval circle of r.e.p. can anyone help me date this gun? have I been rooked? all model 10s I have seen was marked on the side model 10

Looks like my Model 10, including the leather case. Watching that action work is amazing, if a bit noisy.

There is not such thing as a "pre" model 10, Remington just didn't originally mark a model on any of their firearms until later. Your model 10 was made in late1910, they actually started making them in 1907.

A couple that are high on my list of must haves there! Sadly, not many model 10’s or 17’s crossed the pond. They would sit happily as ancestors of my Ithaca model 37 collection, a model 31 wouldn’t be denied cabinet space either! I live in hope! |
