just picked up a new 308 mountain rifle with the Bell & Carlson stock. Trying to figure out what to put on top. Thought about a 3x9 Conquest

I really like redfield scope. I have a revolution on my marlin 30-30 and the revenge on my remington 700. And as a bonus they are made in the USA !

I've had good luck on my guns with Bushnell. You can also find good prices on Leupold. Even the early VX-1's hold up better than most and are worth the little extra IMHO.

I usually cannot afford the high end models but I tend to avoid the lower tier and move up to the 2nd tier+ models.

The only brand I have had bad experiences with is tasco. Anything other than airgun scopes seem to shake apart after a couple trips to the range. The last one I bought was over 10 years ago so things may have changed (if they are even still around LOL).

I always like 3-9's on my rifles. I rarely use anything over 3-4 for most hunting situations but it's nice to have the little extra when at the range without a spotting scope.

Yes and its always good to get online reviews. I've put "cheap Chinese junk" on my rifle based on reviews that's lasted years, held up to very rough use, and maintained dead zero through hundreds and hundreds of rounds.

thanks guys. Its still scopeless while I save up some dough. I have a Bushnell 3x9x40 4200 on my other 700 and it works great. Kinda looking for something lightweight and compact on my new rifle such as the Leupold 2.5x8x38. Shots around here are usually rather short, so my main concern is low light capability and Leupolds are famous for that

that is one of the most noticible features when you start paying more for scopes. I good scope can add several minutes to the hunt. Those extra couple minutes in the early dawn or dusk can make all the difference.

Just be patient in your purchase. Get the scope you really want. A good deal may not be so good if the scope does not perform. I have been very happy with Burris and Leupold. They have held up on heavy magnums in both rifle and handguns.
