Not to go into too much detail, but the piston housing weld on the barrel blew out. This happened 24 hours after I bought the gun brand new and after 125 shells. I contacted Remington, sent it in for repair (note: Versa Max Platinum Warranty is "7 day turnaround on all repairs"). That was 19 days ago. Every day I call the 800-243-9700 to get an update and I'm told they are waiting for a barrel to come in from manufacturing. Anyone have any contacts? I thought this forum may have a few employees that work for Remington on it.
Here's a picture of the piston housing that gave way. Note: I was using standard Federal 2 3/4" #8 shot target load shells...

Sad to hear that your having trouble with the VERSA MAX, I have had nothing but enjoyment out of mine. I know Repairman works in the service department there, you can pm him to see if he can help. Keep us posted on how everything goes.

Hey,I hope you get your VM repaired and up and shooting again.FWIW....it looks like from the pic that the piston housing was not welded properly.Looks to me like the welds only got applied in 3 small sections.Could have been any number of reasons too.Let us know how you make out. |

Hello,
I have had my Versamax sportsman for 2 1/2 months now. Although I have not had any failure to feed like everyone's posting here, I do have one concern and I am not sure whether it's justified. Recently, I have been testing and practicing reloading in garage with snap caps 12 ga shells and notice from time to time the bolt would self retract when pull back or slight forward jolt will automatically close the bolt. Does anyone experience this with their Versa? In addition, I've recently had to send back to Remington get the forearm slop taken care of and although they made readjustments, there is still some play in the plastic forearm. Appear the slight movement in barrel has been addressed. I greatly appreciate any feedback to my questions. Again, my first question is trying to find out whether that's normal receiver action and second whether some play is justified after Already gone through service center. This is my first autoloader so no expert by any means. |
