First post here. I am a tinkerer at heart and love the idea of a rem action with the barrel nut design. I am considering a build based on this action/barrel combo.
One of my requirements is an upgraded bottom metal. I am looking at the PTG stuff, but have a few questions.
1. I can't seem to find a link to the PTG bottom metal for the 783, does anyone know which one works with the 783?
2. Which mags work with the PTG bottom metal?
I guess I am jumping the gun here. With the factory bottom metal can I use aftermarket mags? I am looking for a 10 round mag capability.
Thanks for any help here.

Hello, just wanted to let everyone know that the Bolt lift SV from Kinetic Research Group, will work with the 783, just need to Dremmel around to fit, just make sure you have the clearance on your scope, mine works great, the website will say it don't work with it, but I'm hardheaded. The one I ordered is the small one and it matches the texture and color of the original stock.

Welcome to both of you. I don't own a 783, just a 700, but it looks like Herb was able to answer you question OP. Anyways, welcome!

Hello, I was looking at them a few minutes ago, I have a feeding problem on my 783 hopefully this will solve the issue, I sent an email (still waiting for reply) to them about using the OEM mags but looks like the Accuracy International mag is gonna be needed I think they have a 5rd and a 10rd, but this is the link I used: http://shop.pacifictoolandgauge.com/ind ... _4_227_374 |

UPDATE: I got a response, here it is. Herbert, I did check on this for you and was informed the Rem. 783 DBM is made as closest to factory standard as possible, but most stocks require inletting to install the DBM. It is made to accept AICS magazines, or other "standard" mags as well. I hope this helps. Thanks, Stephanie Cramer Sales Representative Pacific Tool and Gauge Phone: 541-826-5808 Fax: 541-826-5304 stephanie@pacifictoolandgauge.com I see light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully this will resolve the issue with round miss feeding problem. I will do more research on this and put on my project list and will provide feedback ASAP. |

Time to update this post.
I finally got my 783 ready for the MOST Series matches. Got a criterion barrel from Northland Shooter Supply ( a 260 rem Varmint weight ss 26" long), A break from APA (The little bastard), a stock from Boyds (the old tacticool model, I think they call it something else now), and a PTG bottom metal. I had a local gunsmith do all the bedding and Barrel/brake install. I bought a bunch of the magpul Magazines to fit this bottom metal, and also installed an atlas bipod. I put a Bushnell fixed 10x on it in the hopes that would satisfy me. It did ok, but I finally put an HDMR on it. I took this thing to the range this last weekend. I shot about 100 rounds through it doing load development, and just generally playing around. I found a load it liked, a lot! I was able to hit 6"X 6" plates at 600 yards reliably. This is going to be my competition gun for the foreseeable future!! I probably have $1200 total in this thing, not exactly the budget build I was hoping for, but I am still happy. |

Glad to hear about the magazine/bottom metal modification. I recently built 1 myself. What is the length of the magazine? I'm curious to know how long the ammo can be loaded and still operate. I put a Shilen turned blank on mine that I chambered ,threaded and crowned myself in 6.5 Creedmoor. First 3 shots in 1 hole. I'm also using a Boyds stock that I have ordered. (Pro Varminter) I did away with the barrel nut on mine and did a shouldered fit for the barrel. Used a#6 Shilen contour on the barrel 26" long. Pretty heavy. I shot several 1 hole 5 shot groups. I shot 18 rounds in 4 different groups with 4 different loads and all 18 shots would fit into a 1" square. Totally awesome.
