I have a chance to get a 870 wing master 20 gauge with a short barrel. I have never seen one like this and was wondering about the value and when it was made? The gun is in great shape 9 out 10. New to Remington guns just bought my first one last week.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Goose

What is the first and last letter in the serial number? This will tell me approximate age and what type of gun it is.

In 1981 they introduced Model 870 20 gauge Lightweight Limited with 23" barrel and 12½ inch length of pull - "for younger shooters and smaller-framed adults."
In 1984 they also introduced the Model 870 "Special Field" in 12 and 20 gauge versions, with checkered, straight English-style stocks (no pistol grip) and 21-inch ventilated rib barrels in improved cylinder, modified, and full chokes. Remington also changed the name "Lightweight Limited" to Model 870 20 gauge Lightweight "Youth Gun" with a change in barrel length to 21-inches.
We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

My 870 12 gauge is early 80's vintage and a fantastic gun. I've recently put an 18.5" barrel on it for HD. To be honest, I'd prefer a 20 gauge for HD since my wife would be able to handle it better than she can the 12 gauge. But she has "other options" so no worries.

If the price is right, grab that 870!
