Hello everyone. I purchased this 1100 yesterday. I wanted an auto loader and found it locally. Have a Mossberg 500 for duck hunting, plan to use the 1100 for upland.

I was hoping to get help dating the gun. The serial number is L432xxxV. The barrel is not original, was replaced by previous owner 10 years ago. It is 2 3/4 with choke tubes.

The furniture on the gun is nearly perfect. The receiver has a few scratches but nothing bad. Previous owner used it for trap, never hunted with it. This is a beautiful gun and I cannot wait to shoot it!

Thanks!

The "L" prefix indicates that it was made in the time frame from 1968-1973.
"L" was the first Prefix letter used on 1100 and it switched to "M" in 1974

Thanks for the pic. Nice looking gun.

Very nice Carl and I might add my favorite. Just joined myself and have a TB 1100 I use for trap. nice to find an 1100 in nice shape. In my area they are as scarce as hens teeth. Barrel on yours should have a code directly in front of receiver. But seeing it has a new barrel won't give you production year of whole gun. Wish I could find a 1100 Special Field. Best Wishes

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I have been using this gun for trap and have encountered a problem. The bolt won't lock back after the last shell is fired. This probably happens 75% of the time it is fired, occasionally it will lock back like it is supposed to.

After it first started doing this I took the gun apart and cleaned everything including the trigger group very meticulously. There was a lot of crap/dirt/powder in the trigger group but after cleaning I still have the problem.

I have researched this problem and identified the carrier latch as a possible culprit, but it operates as it should (I think).

Can anyone help me ID a solution here?

Thanks!

Have you cleaned the gas port holes real good.
Using a #47 drill bit (.079) carefully clean both holes out.
To me it sounds like you are using a light load and not getting enough gas pressure to the action....enough to cycle, but not lock it all the way back.

I am using 1 1/8 oz target loads, 3 dram eq. I haven't cleaned the gas ports like you indicated, I will try this.

Thanks!

As you push the drill bit thru the holes (2 of them) look down the barrel and you will see the carbon being loosened up!
If it is really clogged you may have to start with a smaller drill bit and work your way up to the #49.
Just take your time and be careful:)

Tried to clean the gas ports, I don't have a bit that small. I used some wire instead and poked some carbon out but there wasn't a lot. Will take it out Sunday and see if the issue is resolved.

Cleaned the gas ports, and took a solvent to the trigger group and cleaned it meticulously. Still have the same problem of the bolt not locking back after the last shot.

carl1783 if you haven't resolved this yet, but I suspect you have, try some Dill's "bristle" pipe cleaners, (red package), on your gas ports. I use them on my 1100 trap after every trap session and mine will reliably cycle 3/4 oz. trap loads no problem.

Carrier latch is indeed a very likely culprit, if the shells are cycling the action sufficiently. One way to be sure, is to remove the fore end and cycle the action by pulling back on the action sleeve. If it doesn't latch back every time, I would bet on the carrier latch.
What could have happened... did.
