New (3 days) out of the box, never fired Versa Max Sportsman. Went through manual, was exercising loading, ejecting shells. After last round was ejected, bolt would not close. Initial look reveals what appears to me to be a mis-aligned bolt. I removed the barrel and I can see that the face of the bolt is in front of the slot where the nipple on the end of the barrel should be seated (back of the chamber). Bolt pull back lever is unobstructed and free to move.
The shell release arm is to the outside of the bolt release slide. This may be correct but it looks like the shell release arm should be to the inside of the bolt slide. In any case, the barrel won't seat all the way and the bolt is stuck open. So much for duck hunting today.

Welcome to Remington Owners. Sorry to hear of your trouble.

I did a little checking and there is some info here on the site you might find helpful. Take a look here...topic892.html or here....topic11.html

Lots of good resources on the net too...Google your issue and voila lots of info out there.

If you don't find a quick fix for it, my recommendation is to return it to where you bought it. Make it their problem. Trying to deal with the manufacturer can be tedious and frustrating.

Best of luck and let us know how it turns out for you.

Good luck!

Already sent the gun back to Remington. I could have torn the gun down and figured out the problem. But a brand new gun should function properly. Maybe if enough folks put the pressure back on the manufacturer, some quality control measures will be put in place....else Remington owners will become Browning owners.
I'm happy to give Remington an opportunity to make things right. The outcome will determine whether I ever buy another Remington.

Received the gun back. Service slip indicated, 'no issues found'. That's interesting seeing that aside from the fact I couldn't get the bolt to close, neither could the folks at the 2 gun shops I took it to. Its clear that the bolt was removed, reoriented and replaced. I've read that the centering collar has been problematic with this gun. In any case, the barrel seats fine where before it didn't, and the gun functions as expected. I appreciate the quick turn by Remington, but the 'no issues found' is ....how do you say...B.S.
