Joined to find information re: suitable distance/competition shooting rifle for my 14 year old daughter, who is tired of plinking paper targets with an old .22

I started my daughter shooting over a year ago when she was 15 at 25 yards with a 22, she is now shooting out to 1,000 yards with 308 and a friends 300 Win Mag. Just over a month ago she shot a sub 2 inch group at 600 with my Remington 223.

I hate her.

Just take her to the range, give her the gun and point her in the direction of the target.

Thanks Fenrir. I'll post inquiries in the Competition shooting section. I grew up shooting rabbits and deer with an Ithaca Deer Slayer. Rifles, in general; aren't in my wheelhouse and competitive shooting is an absolute mystery.

A 223 is a nice soft shooting round to start her off with, enough recoil to differentiate from the rimfire rounds but not so much it hurts. My daughter bruised her shoulder and cheek when she used my 303 now she is wary of using it.

I'll also recommwnd the .223. Its a nice low recoil roind that is a good stepping stone to others.

15 year old daughter opened wrapped Christmas present to discover a Remington 700 SPS AAC-SD .308 in the box. You would have thought she hit the Powerball. Girls and their guns, go figure!

Got my first shotgun on a Christmas day back in the 60's...still own it too !!

Presented my wife and daughter matching 9mm's a few Christmas's ago...for self protection...as both now have LTCF's ( License To Carry Firearm ) in Pennsylvania.

Well done viper !!
