I have an older (1996) 11-87 that I bought used 3 years ago. She has ran like a sewing machine up until this month. I have been having misfire issues. I pull the trigger and the hammer goes "click" and the gun does not go "boom"... The first time it happened I thought it was the ammo, so I cycled the action and was able to fire the next round. When I checked the unfired round. There was no indentation on the primer, and the shell looked new.
I first thought maybe it was the firing pin, or firing pin spring, but both look to be in good shape.
I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had a similar situation with their 11-87 going "click" instead of "boom", and could offer me some advice on how to fix this.
Thanks

check your firing pin to make sure that you are getting protrusion and make sure your piston rings are installed correctly. if they are put in reverse the action will not go forward enough therefore the firing pin will not reach

Firing pin it was... I had checked it and it looked like it was working right. piston & rings were all good. I started replacing the rings and pistons and a few other things. I had pulled the firing pin and checked it for a warp, or a broken spring. Everything looked good, but still had the misfire issue. Finally after refreshing piston rings and gasket I was left with the firing pin, ordered a new pin & spring and took my old one out again and check the two side by side. My old pin was slightly blunted. I put the new pin in and she is up and running again. It was a slight blunt, could only notice the difference when held next to the new one.
Thanks for the help! Now mu gun is like new! =D |
