I need some advice on setting up my "REMINGTON Model 700 BDL STAINLESS in 7mm ULTRA MAG"
I bought it new in 2003 and haven't put a scope on it hence I have never fired it.
It is my first "Magnum Rifle" so I have no Idea what loads to break it in with nor how powerful a scope to start out with.
I plan on reloading so a recommendation on what powder to use would be helpful.
Also I plan on sighting it in at about +3 @ 100 yds. for approx. 300 yd zero in case that helps.

Any advice would be most helpful.
Thank you...

When I bought my 338 Ultra it had a leupold 4.5-12 with the fine duplex on it and I felt that scope better suited for an old varmint rifle so I looked around and found a great deal on a used leupold 3.5-10 with the heavy duplex and I'd think that would be a great option for your 7RUM also. It's the same scope on run on my 7mag. and haven't found a need to want something different. Either that or a 2.5-8 Really depends on what type hunting you're going to do. If it's long range shooting you might consider something a lot more expensive in the nightforce line.

I bought it in 2002 and due to having had 2 other rifles to enjoy I never got around to setting it up.
I might just get better scope mounts and use the NcStar (6-24 x 50) Rangefinder I have, to break it in.
If it holds zero I will work up a load for it.

Thank you mtelkhntr and SHOOTER13

Having done my due diligence on rifle scopes, I've come to find that the NcStar's turret tracking is inaccurate when you adjust for windage or elevation. I guess I won't waste my time with it.
I've decided to go with a $300.00 SWFA Super Sniper 10x for now and save up for an IOR Valdada 10x42 Tactical. Note that the IOR will be taking a backseat to Bedding, Good Bipods and Reloading Equipment all of which I need prior to spending $1000.00 on a Scope.

Hmmm. Purchased in 2003, never scoped safe queen for a decade.

Do you even need it?

Sometimes it's not about need.

Well, the title says "new rifle" and it's hardly that. Unfired isn't new.Google has been around a long time, I would have thought a decade would have been long enough to research a scope.

True RootBrain, it's not new, nor did I need it when I bought it. Totally an impulse buy just in-case I needed it someday
I was told I would hate the recoil so I put it on the back burner and it ended up in storage.
Now that I have it in hand I wish it was a "7mm Rem Magnum" not the "Ultra Magnum"
Even reloading data is not to popular for it.
I am actually considering using the action for another build. Any thoughts?
