versa max safety conversion

can some one please help me by showing me how to swap safety as i shoot left . a picture showing how to would be great. thanks

I do not have pictures to share, but if you turn in your owners manual to page 28 and find parts 64, 65, 66, and 81.
If you tap #66 Safety Detent Retaining Pin out while making sure that you pushing down on the Safety Detent 65, which is spring 81 loaded you will find that you can remove the detent 65 and spring 81. With these out you can remove the safety button 64 from the right side and insert it into the left side. Replace the spring 81, detent 65 and while pushing down on 65 insert detent retaining pin 66. You are done. We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

I'm struggling to identify which pin is number 66. There seems to be three possible options.
Please can someone help. Is it where the arrow points in the picture?

Its the "little one" with the 66 right on top of it in the picture, and yes it is located where your arrow is pointing......be darn sure and push down and hold onto part 65 when you drive pin 66 out as it is spring (81) loaded. With pin 66 removed, spring 81 and detent 65 out you can pull the safety button out form the right hand side of the trigger housing then insert it into the left hand side. Replace spring 81, detent 65, push them down and reinstall pin 66 to hold them in place. We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

Sorry to keep bothering you but the pin really doesn't want to move. I may just be being a little too gentle with it. Any tips?

you will need to take the spring pressure off of pin 66 by pushing down on the detent thru the hole it sets in with a small screw driver or punch, make sure you are not on top of the pin 66, but go beside it to one side or the other.
With the spring pressure off, you should be able to tap the pin 66 out using the correct size punch and a small hammer. Keep in mine that you will have to reverse this process when you put it all back together......pushing down on the detent so you can tap the pin back in place. We have done so much for so long with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing!

I didn't have a suitably sized punch so I thought I'd leave it to the generally boring time between hunting season and spring shoots, now.
My calliper reads the hole size as 78 thou, strangely 2mm on the dot. I generally distrust the metric system. To cut to the chase, it looks like a roll pin. Did you use a 2mm or possibly 1/16" roll pin punch or stick with a parallel pin punch? Spare parts for Remington are like pigeons teeth in Britain at the moment (LONG story) and I'd hate to damage anything. |
