Shot almost 250 rounds today. I tried Federal, Winchester, Remington, and some handloads, all 230 gr round nose. I had a couple of feed jams with the Federal. When I got home & inspected the brass, I noticed that there are heavy extractor marks on the brass, but they are really deep on the Federal. So it appears that the Federal brass is also softer.

Overall I am very impressed with the performance & like the feel of the pistol. Not too worried about the jams, I'm sure it will get better with use, & I suspect the ammo was part of the problem.

Not surprisingly, the Federal also grouped worse than the others. Didn't save the Federal target, but attached are the other targets, shot at 25 yds. I was aiming at the big target on both of them, so I have to make a windage adjustment. Forgot to take my allen wrench today. Also need to file the front sight, or ask Remington for a shorter sight to bring it up. I haven't done much pistol shooting in 17 years, so I am a little rusty, and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

That's why they call it "practice"...

Lube the weapon, take your time, aim higher, and give each load a test at 15 yards before moving out to 25. Every firearm likes a certain load(s), so getting there IS half the fun !!

Not unhappy with the grouping, a 4" group at 25 yds isn't that bad for just plinking. I just have to make sight adjustments. The windage is no problem & hopefully Remington will take care of the elevation. If not, I will machine the front sight off a little.

Yes, right-handed. Called Remington today & they are sending me a shorter front sight. I think I know where this is going, but it's not a flinching issue. I also shot the .44 last weekend & had a 2" group at 25 yds, and it was a little high & right.

Curious if you got the new sight and how the R1 is shooting now...

Shooter13,

I received the front sight yesterday. I am going shooting this afternoon so I was really hoping it would show up. Very friendly & fast service from Remington. I will try to get it sighted in today & report back. I have some factory ammo & handloads to fire off.

Went shooting yesterday. The 1911 digested a variety of factory loads & handloads with the exception of some 240 gr hollow points that would not feed. Had some nice groups at 25 yds that were about 4" high. The new front sight was noticeably shorter & I was afraid It was too short. So now I am down to machining the original sight, splitting the difference.

Update: machined .013" off the original front sight. My elevation is very close. The windage needs a minor adjustment but things are pretty close now. Will try to get it honed in on the next outing.

I machined .013" off the original front sight, and the elevation is now very close. Still need to make a little windage adjustment but it's hitting pretty good.
