Hi guy I'm Rachel

So a few months ago I was at walmart and saw a Remington 770 for a very good price and I almost bought it on the spot (I'm a compulsive buyer) when a different sporting goods clerk came over and told me flat out not to buy it. He said save an extra 100 and get yourself a 700. So I did, later I purchased a Remington 700 ADL synthetic stock with a scope already on it in 30-06. It has a skinny barrel and the bullets can only be extracted from the top, it doesn't have the little "trap" door :?: at the bottom of the stock. Now I always buy stuff and then run home fingers crossed hoping I didn't buy a total piece of crap, a lot of time I get it right, but some times I get it wrong. So here I am asking you infinitely more knowledgeable friends. Is this a good gun? is accurate? did I make a mistake?

Please help me guys

Rachel L out

Welcome to the Remington Owners Forum Rachel !!

That Remington 700 ADL will serve you well...it's an excellent rifle in .30-06 !!

(The trap door is the floor plate of the internal magazine...)

Post a pic of it when you find the time... ( IYDMMA, how much did you wind up paying ?! )

I own a Remington 700 BDL chambered in 7mm Rem Mag.

Thanks Shooter13!

I paid somewhere in the low 300's I forget the exact amount but really close to 3 bills

by the way I saw the 7mm mag bullets and I got scared... I couldn't handle the recoil I'm 5'6" 135lbs so... one of the clerks told me that with a shoulder pad you couldn't even feel it, but even the 30-06 had a strong recoil.

Excellent price...

BTW...the owners manual will show you how to fill and empty the magazine via that trap door.

Welcome aboard !!

Just re-read your first post...and saw the "NO trapdoor" writeup.

"Jumped the gun" on that one huh !? ;)

And yea...get yourself a nice recoil pad....really makes a difference bench shooting and in the field.

Here's a pic of my Rem 700 BDL:

Awesome pic Rachel !! ( what bed spread ?!...there's a bed spread in that pic ?! )

Like the synthetic stock...great for accuracy, as wood can warp and change the zero.

What brand scope you got on her ?! Magnification ? ( 3-9x40 ? )

Hehe, what a nice guy, if there were more girls in this forum I would be mortified lol.
About the scope, well, I really don't know, it came with the rifle, it also came with a little manual but it doesn't tell me what kind of scope it is, I heard they are throw away scopes =( all I really want is to be able to hit a orange or something that size from 100 yards, I'm not asking for 1 MOA? I hope I'm using that term right... and yes it is 3x9 which I honestly don't know what it means exacly

A 3x9 variable power scope is the best way to go...

In regards to the scope... "3-9x40"... the numbers 3-9 refers to the variable magnification power of the scope. A 3-power scope enlarges the image three times. An 9-power scope enlarges things nine times, making it seem to be closer than when seen through a 3-power scope. That sounds good, but there are drawbacks to power.

The higher the magnification, the less area you can see through the scope. If your scope is too powerful, you may be able to see ants crawling on a blade of grass, but you'll never know which blade it is because they all look the same.

Higher magnification also eats light. A 9-power scope will show the same image darker than a 3-power, if everything else is the same. There are ways to increase the amount of light that passes through the scope, such as larger lens diameters and even a large scope tube diameter, but if that goes too far you get a large scope that is more difficult to mount.

Every lens in a scope robs a tiny bit of light that tries to pass through, so the higher the magnification, or the more lens coatings, usually the darker the image.

The "40" is the diameter in millimeters of the objective lens.

Not too hard to understand...

First off, you should go take the second clerk (the one who talked you out of the 770) a good cup of coffee... you avoided buying one of Remington's worst products ever because of his advice!

I have a rifle very similar to yours, except mine is stainless (and now sits in a McMillan stock and wears a Minox scope). I don't know who serious you are about shooting, but I might think about putting away some pennies for a scope replacement... I had one of those Remington 3-9x (be-branded Bushnell) scopes, and I dang near ripped it off at the range, just so I could shoot it with another rifle.

The magazine... you have what is called a blind magazine or ADL, meaning you can't see the bottom of the magazine. The other configurations are BDL, with the floorplate that you can open to dump the magazine contents, and a DBM... detachable box magazine.

BTW, Remington rifles that come from the factory with a DBM have the feed rails in the magazine, and can't be converted to an ADL or BDL.

I know, that was probably more information than you wanted or needed. :)
