What would be your choice of firearm (firearms) to take this giant lizard out. Remember, one shot, one kill may be a kind, gentle, and humane thought, but it's going to take a lot more than a few well placed rounds to take him down. They are now considered an endangered species which has been strictly enforced since 1980. Some of the hunters who hunted this dragon used shotguns (automatic), and they hunted in groups of at least three well armed men. And no doubt they were shooting slugs and buckshot.

History:

Many creatures that lived in the enviroment before Noah's flood seemed to reach huge sizes. Fossils of gigantic monitors have been discovered that show todays isolated colonies have come from much larger and more wideranging monitors of earlier times. Fossils of Varanus, the lizard group to which Komodo Dragons belong, have been found in Australia measuring an incredible nine meters (30 feet) long! Yet these fossils give no indication that the giant reptiles evolved from any other type of creature and indisputable proof that reptiles (Komodo Dragon) did not evolve from non-reptiles.

About:

The Komodo Dragon is a pretty aggressive and has no fear of manking and carries a body full of bacteria. Much of his diet comes from other dead animals that may have been for days or even weeks. Also, this guy can consume 80% of it's own body weight. The quanity of bacteria this lizard digests has mystified doctors and scientists for years,. Even if the Komodo Dragon should brush against your flesh, it could possibly make you extremely ill or even kill you in a matter of days. They can run fairly fast, have bone-crushing jaws, and are known for using their tail to knock their prey down. They can easily be over ten feet long and weigh close to 400 pounds.

This king size lizard is now considered a endangered species. However, if you could go hunting this giant lizard, it may be conforting to know that you won't have to go looking for him... he'll find you!

Great thread! I would say the weapon that I take for a hunt like this is an AR-15 cambered in 300 Blackout. I've seen what this caliber does to hogs and its insane.

Thanks for your comments DoubleTap, and another consideration could be the Remington .338 Ultra mag. And your bullet selection is important as you want a cartridge that can produce severe internal damage. Like the Bear and Wild Bore, they are unpredictable big game critters. When we target vitals on Bear and Bore, the lung area is a good shot location. If enough lung damage is done the lungs will collaspe and they will usually drop within 10 to 20 yards. I know hunters that have shot Bear in the vitals (not the lungs) and found them still be extremely dangerous even if he is in the process of dying. A Bear can rake you to ribbons with those claws. This giant lizard also has a very thick hide.

If I were on an Island and knew there was just one Komodo Dragon on it with me, I'd go after him and take him out, because eventually he's going to come after me. Besides I'd sleep better if he wasn't around!
