It's the tapered, but I think both with work. I had to do light sanding around the top and bottom to get it close enough to get the screws on.

Did you try putting it in the oven to see if it would stretch enough to fit?

i don't know how pliable it is outta the oven i may have to try that, the actual diameter of the barrel end is flush with the barrel

Here's my 597 FLX Camo right after I got it in September:

I've since added a DIP Picatinny rail, a CenterPoint 4-16x40 AO scope, and a VQ extractor. I've put 3030 rounds through it so far, and cleaned throughly only twice. Even shooting dirty, the reliability for this gun is at about 99.142%. Pretty good considering my first 597 rarely got through a full mag without a FTE or two. I've got about a hundred and fifty more photos, I just haven't uploaded them to Photobucket yet.

Paint job on the cheap
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got tired of looking at the gray stock and having people tell me how nice my Ruger looked so I did a Krylon Fusion paint job. First I lightly sanded the stock with 400 grit to get rid of the seam lines and wiped it down with alcohol, then painted with gray primer followed with dark blue gloss Fusion. Finally, I lightly sprayed black Fusion Texture over the whole stock with a little heavier application around the grip and under the forestock. It doesn't really show up in the pictures but the stock now has a kind of iridescent apperance. In the shade it looks black with a hint of dark blue and copper and in the sun the blue shows a lot better. Kind of neat and now people ask me what kind of rifle I have instead of assuming it's a 10/20. Maybe not professional but definitely unique.

I also bought an Archangel kit to put on this but I'm happy with the way it performs so I think I can justify getting an AAC-SD and set that up with the Archangel. I can put 10 rounds in the size of a quarter at 100 yards with the bipod and would probably be able to do better if I had youngers eyes and a steadier hand. I love this rifle!!!

Thank you. Once I clear coat it, the colors should stand out a little better.
