Hello,
I live in Long Island, NY.
I've been hunting for years (rifle & bow). Although I own an 870 shotgun I ave never owned a Remington Rifle. I just won a raffle through my hunting club for a Remington model 700SPS in .308 caliber.
I have used Nikon optics on other rifles and am leaning towards a Nikon scope for this new rifle. I wanted to use a DNZ base. I checked their website and they have different variation on their "game reaper" product line for the Remington 700. They "short action", "long action", low mount, and higher mount versions.
Do any of you folks know which is the best one for this rifle?
Thanks!

Welcome aboard! The Remy 700s in .308 are considered short-action rifles, so you'll definitely need a short-action scope base. The appropriate height of your mount will be determined by your optic's objective diameter. A scope with a 50mm objective will require more clearance that one with a smaller objective diameter. Here are DNZ's Game Reaper/Freedom Reaper measurements from the bottom of the mount at the front of the receiver to the centerline of the scope tube: Extra Low mount - .855" Low mount - .980" Medium Mount - 1.105" High Mount - 1.230" Taking a simple measurement will determine which mount height you need. Position your scope tube at a level height above the receiver to where the forward objective is just clear of the barrel. Take a measurement from the top of the receiver to the center line of the scope tube and that will give you your minimum clearance height for you mount. Compare that measurement to the ones listed above to determine which DNZ mount you'll need. Hope this helps... 16.5" 597 AAC-SD .22lr
