hi Remington owners,

I'm trying to find out a bit of info on my speedmaster 552.

barrel:
Remington Arms Co. Inc.
Ilion N.Y. Made in the USA

left side of barrel:
funky icon, looks like ladies torso, laying on her back, with her knees bent.
(pretty good imagination, eh? )
the letters "L A", then a space, then lower imprint, looks like "15"

right side of the barrel:
these are vague.

looks like REP inside a "lozenge" shaped, oval, then... to the right of that, looks like, the top of an outlined Cross. but the base is unfinished.

if anyone has any information as to what these marks mean, or where i might try, i'd appreciate a reply.

Thank you,
Jim

PS -

I also saw the chart that listed letters, corresponding to months..

B - Jan
L - Feb
A - Mar
C - APR
K - May
P - June
O - July
W - Aug
D - Sept
E - Oct
R - Nov
X - Dec

not sure if I de-coded that right, but that's what I thought they meant.

also, saw:

L - 1991
L - Feb
A - Mar
A - 1932
L - 1932
A - 1954
L - 1964
A - 1980

So.. not sure how these fit in either...

any thoughts or help would be much appreciated,

thank you,
Jim

The "LA" is the governing code, L being the month in a coded sequence of B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X, so "L" would be month 2 or February. Then the A could be any repeating sequence of 1954 or 1980. Only Remington themselves can look up the serial number code and give you an exact, but you can look in several references and see when (e.g. front sights) changed shape and that will help pinpoint which year yours was made.

PS - I love my Speedmaster.
