Remington 58, what part is this?

What part and what is this supposed to do. It’s on top of the magazine tube and circled? Thank you in advance.

Without more info, I'd say it either aligns the forend on the magazine tube to keep it from twisting, or keeps the barrel centered over the magazine tube in some fashion. IS there a corresponding lug under the barrel?
