Hoping for some assistance from a seasoned Remington lover. I'm trying to help a friend date, and learn more about, a Remington shotgun he has inherited.

It is a 20 gauge semi-automatic. The only identifiers I've found on the gun so far are the name/model "Sportsman", some engraving and a S/N of 11145.

It's a 'shooter' grade gun and any guesstimates as to it's value would also be welcome.

Is anyone familiar with this shotgun? If so, any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

My book says Remington made a "Sportsman" model in 12, 16, and 20 gauge with 26 inch barrels with a beavertail forend from 1931-1949. Not sure how old your friends gun is. Check the barrel length to see if it measures 26 inches. Believe Remington also had a later Sportsman line but could not find any info in my book. The engraving you mention sounds like it could be the former.

Hope it helped. Got my info from Bluebook but my book is an older copy. Used value of the gun may be lower than quoted.
