1) Very reliable. Much more so than I would have expected. The only issue now is charging from a full mag, and only with certain ammo. Very sensitive to cartridge overall length.

2) Very accurate too. Hits VERY low with every 115gr load I have tried with even a standard center of mass hold. Reminds me of my old Arcus HP close in that regard. The sights are designed for combat sight picture; place center dot (not top edge of the sight) where you want the bullet to go and it seems to help considerably. Developing story.

3) The delayed blowback mechanism works. Less felt recoil than my Star BM with equivalent loads, almost like a 380 with standard 9mm.

4) Mechanics are odd. Seems like the gun wants to be charged from empty with an open slide with a full mag. Tactical reloads shouldn't pose an issue, though.

5) Asthetics. I would have preferred a more faithful reboot; a slimmer, more vintage profile, glossy finish and the combined grip safety/ slide release. And more convex grips that go all the way up the frame. Remington has a dependable habit of making newer guns more clunky than their predecessors; 8/81, 12/121, 14/141.

Just out of curiosity are original 51 pistols sometimes available on the used market?

Are they priced reasonably?

Yeah, and they have appreciated considerably since the Gen 1s came out. Used to be an $250 gun, maybe a bit less for a rough example. Just an old 380 with magazines you can't find. Now, not so much.

There was a one off made for the Navy, the Model 53. Basically, a huge 51 in 45acp. Much less recoil than the 1911 and less moving parts. Wonder if thought has been given to an R53? An R53 "combat commander" would be a very interesting large bore carry gun.
