Two years ago I bought a Model 512, mfg in 1952, as a replacement for my Model 511 that I learned on waaaaay back when that somehow my family managed to "lose". After conferring with my grandson, the eventual recipient, we decided to reconditon it the best we could, as it was in less than great shape. I stumbled across this website while gathering tips for refinishing and re-bluing.
The rifle is almost finished now and after a couple trips to the range I'll post some photos.
Looking forward to rubbing elbows with other Remington enthusiasts.

I wish I had taken before photos but oh well. This is close to the rifle I learned on some 60 years ago. It was in decent shape when I acquired it two years ago and I was going to leave it as is. But my grandson, who will now learn the basic skills on this rifle, asked that we re-finish it.
We stripped and sanded the stock and gave it the Tru Oil treatment and stripped, sanded , and re-blued with Oxpho-Blue. I was really impressed with both of these products and highly recommend them.
Pretty pleased with the finished product. So much in fact that I think I'm going to tackle my Dad's old J.C. Higgins bolt action 12 Ga.
Lighting isn't the best but these pics are pretty representative on the final result.

I have some spare parts for the JC Higgins bolt action. I have one, but it's seriously just a parts gun. Still though, parts that need sanded and reblued are better than parts that you can never find and if you've done any research at all, it was recalled by Sears and there are very few surviving samples out there.
When people ignorant of guns make gun laws, you end up with ignorant gun laws.

Now I know they're not so ignorant and it's ATRRITION

Yes, I only recently learned of the recall. It is waaay past the time that Sears/Kmart would give me any kind of rebate or even care. So it looks like it will be a wall hanger now...it's about the last thing I have that was my Dad's. It sure put a lot of rabbits in the pot over the years.
