So, after installing my new VZ grips, Galloway recoil springs, and Galloway extended magazine base, I finally got my Remington out for a test drive. My intention was to a) test out the new parts, and b) test out the Underwood Extreme Defender ammo. As for the latter, I only had about 20 rounds remaining, so I also brought out some Black Hills XTP and Hornady XTP.
First things first: my upgrades all worked great. The VZ grips are great...much better purchase, and just a hair wider than stock for a better hand feel. The Galloway parts also functioned perfectly: the +1 magazine works great, and the recoil spring significantly reduces felt recoil. With the XTP rounds, this pistol is a pussycat. The Underwood is a bit snappier, but fully acceptable for a .380 round that performs like a 9mm in this little pistol.
My only concern is that, since purchase, my pistol isn't particularly accurate. Plenty good for a last ditch self defense application, but at the range (where we have a 7 yard minimum distance for pistols), I'm consistently 3-4 inches high...further confirmed by shooting my Pico and Glock 42 afterwards, with no similar deviation off point-of-aim.
I'm already looking at a company that installs tritium night sights to the Ruger LCP and LCP II, and think they can do the same for the RM380. I'm hoping that the rudimentary sights on the Remington are the cause of my inaccuracy, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen similar results.

I am interested in the tritium front sight for the RM380 might not be bad to get one installed in my Wife's RM380? What Company is thinking about doing the sights for the RM380? Might not be a bad idea for another customer to call them and put in a request with them. Thanks for any info.

Is the tritium front sight taller than the factory sights?
If not, I doubt it'll help much. When people ignorant of guns make gun laws, you end up with ignorant gun laws.

I'm not a fan of the new generation CCP pistols. For that ^ reason is why I stick with my two carry favorites, Beretta 84/85 or CZ 83. Both are very accurate, ultra reliable, feed and make go bang on everything you can load into them, and are only slightly bigger yet ultimately more controllable and point-able. CZ-83. Da! Here's the company that installs sights. I should be hearing from them any day now regarding the viability of doing it to the RM380:
https://innovativearms.com/portfolio/sight-upgrade/ From the look of the photos of other pistols they've upgraded, the sights do look significantly taller than stock. |

Interesting!
I would seriously consider this if it's offered. Thanks! Carpe diem

So...I heard from the company and the news isn't good. Apparently the slide is too thin toward the muzzle, and the aftermarket tritium sight requires a bit more depth for installation.
The good news is that they are going to polish my barrel/feed ramp, and refinish my slide with a brushed stainless moly resin at a very reasonable price. Given that my RM380 has the worst finish of any pistol I have owned (it already looks like it has suffered a decade of abuse), I'm grateful for this opportunity. |
