Once that was out of the way, I wanted to give my Remington a bit more attention.
First, I purchased some VZ grips for it (decided on the diamond pattern, which--caution--has a bit of bit but really helps with purchase). Next, I added a Galloway extended baseplate and their 20% stiffer recoil spring setup. (I know I gave Galloway a bit of grief in the past, and stand by my criticism of the way they handle the RM380 trigger "upgrade" issue...however, they generally do make a decent product, and their other upgrades for my Remington have been excellent.).
So I finally got my RM out o the range, shooting some Black Hills XTP rounds and a few magazines worth of Hydra-Shoks. No surprise...it ran 100% over about 50-60 rounds. I really like the way the trigger performs now that it's well broken-in and outfitted with the Galloway trigger spring. And, with the new recoil setup, it really shoots like a pussycat...I swear I could have been shooting .22 without much difference in felt recoil.
HOWEVER...I really find this pistol to be pretty inaccurate from 7 yards (the minimum for pistol fire at my commercial range). I had a pretty good spread to my grouping, and point of impact was at least 5" high from that range.
I'm no Annie Oakley, but the other pistols I brought along proved to me that I can at least do MY job from that distance if the pistol does its job. I don't know if I attribute it to the sights, or just some inherent inaccuracy of pistol...its a quandary.
Nor do I find this disqualifying...I expect this gun would most likely be called upon to save my bacon within 5 yard ranges, so what I saw doesn't overly concern me.
I did, however, find someone online who installs tritium sights on Ruger LCP/LCP II, Taurus TCP, and KT P32 pistols. I spoke to him, and he agreed to take a look at the Remington to see if he could do the same. The price is not exorbitant, and I'm considering it. The sights are really the only glaring weakness on the Remington, and I would like to be a bit more confident with a pistol I intend to keep for my lifetime.
