Hey, who needs a round barrel? I picked up a Remington 700 VTR in .223 today. It has a triangular shaped barrel with porting slits near the muzzle. I mounted a Leupold VX2, 6-18X40 AO scope on it using an EGW Picatinny rail base and Burris XTR 1 inch low rings. I shot it at my house today on my 25 yd pistol range just to get it on paper. Next week I'll take it up to the 100 yd outdoor range in North Carolina to see how it shoots. I ordered some Hornady 55 grain V-max Varmint Express ammo today. That ammo shoots real good in my Stag Arms DM6 Stealth AR15. My Stag has a 1 in 9 twist, as does this 700 VTR, so that ammo should be good for both guns. I do have to complain about that X-Mark Pro trigger Remington has switched to. I've had 3 or 4 rifles that have that trigger and I have never been successful in adjusting the pull weight lighter than 4 lbs. Even removing the pull weight screw in the trigger completely has not lightened the pull less than 4 lbs. Don't know why Remington thinks this is a better trigger than the old style 3-screw trigger on the earlier 700 rifles. It might be a better trigger for Remington lawyers trying to keep Remington from litigation because some idiot adjusts the sear engagement to less than .010 and the gun fires when the bolt is closed or the safety is flipped from safe to fire. But it hasn't been a better trigger for me with the guns I've owned. I looked at Timney triggers on the internet this afternoon and I may just have to order one of those so I can get a better trigger pull.

Timney might be the answer. Heard nothing but good about em. Still got the standard trigger on my older 700 and let off is quite good. Very crisp even if the pull is not 3-4 lbs. Many years with mine and successful hunts.
