Bought it the other week for $150.
1978 Skeet model.
Puchased unseen I expected a scrapper but it turns out to be a sleeper.
Shot it for the first time on Wednesday and although it shot the punchy loads OK I was a bit dissapointed with its light load performance.
Gave it a full strip today and found 2 things of note. The feed latch fell out and the piston was upside down :oops:

Luckily I found some old advice on another forum by 'Virginian' ( My Hero! ) on how to reattach the feed latch , which is now glued and clamped.
The white butt pad spacer had disintegrated and a new recoil spring is on the way.
Having owned a 1100 in the past I feel a bit silly missing the piston issue.
Anyway should be 100% pretty soon and I must say I am very impressed with the amount of knowledge that can be gleaned from this forum.
Next time something else falls off I will be in touch.

Pretty cheap Robertt even if your 1100 had a couple issues. See yours is a target model like my TB model. I did have an issue with a light Federal target load as far as ejection so I switched to the Remington game and clay target loads which function perfectly. Mine was a 1979 made 1100 I believe and I bought it back in 1980 new for around $330. Friend has the skeet like yours that came with nice figured walnut. Good luck with yours.

Having prolems locating a white butt spacer and may have make my own. BTW are all the 2-3/4" actions the same? Mine is marked Skeet but looks identical to my friend's who has a field model?

Hmm I have heard that target model barrels have less gas ports than field models. My 1100 Trap has 2 I believe.

The Skeet barrels has two larger ports (o.086"), the trap and field guns had two regular ports (0.079"), and the Magnum models had one gas port (o.073"). What could have happened... did.

Thanks Virginian for this info on the ports. I recall reading the fine print in the older Rem catalogs regarding using the heavier loads in the Trap models such as my older TB grade model.

If not I can get one here which is of a generic type which will require fitting. I have a couple of small areas on the receiver where re-bluing is required. Any suggestions as to using a touch up pen or bluing liquid. Also is lighter fuel adequate to pre clean the affected metal? Thank you Rob.

I have seen several guns that were completely refinished with cold bluing, and two that were done with this stuff were outstanding. They said just followed the directions. With most cold bluing, multiple applications rubbing it in with fine steel wool does well. I like lacquer thinner for removing all oil. Be sure to wash with warm soapy water as a last step. Oil is NOT a solvent for bluing salts. Then dry well and oil.

Going to just shoot the living daylights out of it next week and enjoy it big time. Will re-blue when iI get some down time. Coincidentally saw a documentary about Virginia last night. The Coal Wars ! I thought we had a dramatic history !!

I digress!
Bizarrely I have found a hole drilled through the right hand side of the receiver.

Initially I thought it was done at the factory but on closer inspection I don't think so.
Very strange! Any ideas?

Never seen that one before. Only thing I can think of is possibly the shell latch broke and they couldn't get it out so they drilled a hole so they could use a punch. I never saw one I couldn't get out with a small flat bladed screwdriver. Should not affect function.
Just for info, that in a 1979 receiver in the picture. Receiver scrollwork changed from '78 to '79.

What could have happened... did.

Yes , I am very pleased with it. Once the bluing is done it will be up to scratch.
Could only get hold of a generic 2mm white spacer but am pleased to say it was very easily fitted with a bit of time and patience.

Unfortunately I seem to have some sort of new addiction as I have just located another of the same age at a similar price with a full choke barrel. I have shot it and it works fine.

Havn't bought it yet but my wallets twitching.
Receiver and internals are in good order.

Wood has an oil finish but it feels like the grain hasn't been lifted to give it a silky finish.
It has strange series of vague lines about 1/2 apart parallel with the butt plate which looks like its been lengthened but it hasn't as they keep the matching grain. If I get a chance will attach photo.

It has a good quality rubber recoil pad which makes the L.O.P. slightly longer but I can still shoot ok with it.
The white diamond on the grip is lose and I'm not sure how its fixed and again the white butt spacer is perished.
Am contemplating attaching QD sling fittings to it and using it as a foul weather / knockabout gun.
