Yea...magazines are the heart of the system.
If they don't function properly...you just own a paper weight.

Went back to the range today and I couldn't be happier! I ran 104 rounds through all four magazines without a single hitch! I quit at that point because the little pin just above the magazine release button was sticking out 1/8" on the right side. Once home, I disassembled the R51 and was able to restore the pin to its proper position.
The ammo I used was Remington 124gr FMJ and my own loads with lead 125gr TCN over 7.6 grains of Accurate Arms No. 7. It all worked perfectly! Why did everything work this time?? The only problem I had on the last range trip was that 2 mags would not hold 7 rounds. Over the weekend, I reread every post in this forum and several on other forums. Yesterday I bought an Uplula magazine loader and used it today. Error free!! The mag loader allowed me to fully compress the spring without binding. I am one happy camper!! |

So glad to hear this. It seems that your R51 and mine sort of smoothed out at the same time. First range trip it was a single shot. Last time at the range it went through 7 full magazines, 1st and 2nd gen, with no problem.

I put another hundred rounds through mine yesterday. This time it was all reloads: half were 115 fmjs and half were 115 XTP's. 4.4 grains of TiteGroup. All were full 8-round strings using the "slingshot" method of chambering the first round from a mag then inserting the full mag. No failures to feed and no failures to eject. No problems with the hollowpoints. I couldn't tell the exact point of impact because I'd forgotten to bring targets so I was shooting plates at 10 yards and forgot to bring spray paint. (I have had problems with home loaded 147's shooting too low) whatever, the plates kept falling very consistently and rapidly. In fact, this gun recoils so little and is so fast on the follow-up I'm wondering if we'll start seeing them in competitions. Next time I'll try a round of Critical Duty's on paper to see if the impact is still dead on and if so I'd say the gun is good to go.

Looking forward to the next range report...

I'm not using the slingshot method. I'm using the slide release. My first semi-automatic pistol was a Kahr. In the Kahr's user manual, it suggests that you lock the slide back, insert the loaded magazine, and release the slide with the slide release button. That way it is impossible to "ride the slide," slowing down the slide unintentionally. It has always worked for me and it is working with my R51.
So far my R51 seems to shoot to POA with 124gr cartridges. |

Clyde, I have been shooting my R51 with no problems. It goes bang every time. I also have been shooting steel plates at 50 yards hitting about 50 to 60% of the time. I am also carrying my R51. Since I discovered that it shoots anything I load in it. Even Remington USA forged steel case. Only problem is cleaning it. That *&%#$ action spring is a booger to get out. |

I know this is an older thread but anyway. I got my R51 back in March so I haven't had it quite a month yet. I have put about a 100 rounds through it. I think it was my second shot on my second magazine it stove-piped the round. I got 50 rounds in without any other problem. I broke the gun down after 50 rounds and gave it a good cleaning it was pretty dirty already putting it back together was a bit of a challenge but not too bad. I have since then put another 50 rounds through it and it has run like a sewing machine. I'm shooting from about 15-20 yards at a steel Target a bit smaller than a paper plate 115 grain bullets. Although I have no trouble hitting the target at that distance it does seem to shoot a little low. I really like the gun pretty well. I don't like the trigger it moves side to side and it's plastic I also had trouble racking the gun on a full magazine. I contacted Remington about dimensions for possibly getting a different front sight. The 1 who emailed me back said that they were not sure on the dimension and that they had no aftermarket options available. So I was wondering what exactly are the dimensions of a Novak sight that I should look for? Thanks

"Point of Impact (POI) was "Combat" or "Military Center Hold" instead of traditional Target Shooting hold, which I found to be the same as on the Remington 1911R1. If you try to aim by putting the bottom edge of the bull on the top of the front dot, everything will go just below the bull. Instead, place the center of the dot at center of the bull. When the sights are lined up, the hits will go right in the front dot and accurately so. Accuracy with the Gen 2 R51 was quite good." (Quoted from hipointfirearmsforums). I use "Military Center Hold" and it works fine for me. Just sayin'! |

Actually, Remington needs to give up! These aren't your Dads Remington's any more! Quality control and customer service took a hike many years ago! They just don't seem to really care anymore!

Pretty much my opinion too. |

I disagree. The one I got last week has been flawless. Accurate and easy to shoot fast.

My R51 also shoots without any problems. Bought last week and 150 rounds through it so far.
