I am a newbie from NC. I do not have a lot of past experience with guns (5 years) but I have purchased my first guns and have my CCW. It's funny how they seem to accumulate. ;)

My main interest is home/self-defense but I also am getting into range shooting to hone my pistol and rifle skills.

I just recently got a new Remington 783 chambered in .270 Win. I've only had it out once to sight in a scope. I did that at 50 yards. I just bought a spotting scope so I can sight in at 100 yards next time out. My goal is to get some nice groupings at 200 yards. If I can do that, I'll go from there.

No doubt, I'll be asking for some tips on this forum.

This is my first high powered rifle and I have been researched and learned how to properly mount and sight in a scope and about the features of this starter/budget rifle. I find range shooting very relaxing and a lot of fun.

My equipment is low-end but I want to see if I can perform at a respectable level of accuracy and skill. So far, I am very pleased.

I have come here to learn about the 783 from other owners and to learn about maintaining, shooting and shooting accessories from others on this forum.

I'll be asking some newbie questions but hope to spend some time here and share my progress.

I've been reading the older posts and soaking up the knowledge here.

Have heard some good things concerning the 783 Steve. Many have reported respectable groups. Good choice concerning the .270 in my opinion. Used it in my Model Four to smoke a Black Russian with 130 Core-Lokts. Still a shock to me to visit my LGS and see so many synthetics as in my day nothing but walnut and high polish bluing. Nice but the cost today is prohibitive for many. Was shocked when I checked the prices of an 1100, 870 Wingmaster, and the 700 BDL made today. Good luck with yours
